Hello everyone,
Well can you believe it's time to say good-bye to Ireland? The time has really flown and I'm excited to come home.
I have met so many great people here and made many new friends that I will miss terribly.
Tonight we are all getting together at one of my favorite pubs for the last time. So the evening will be fun and I'm sure eventful.
I have started getting all my things packed and I have more than I thought. So looks like 6 boxes are coming home when I only came over with 2.
Wednesday is the last day in the apartment and the movers are coming to pick up my boxes and I will then take my last bus ride to the hotel for the last two nights here.
My flight leaves Friday morning at 11:45 A.M. and I will get home that same day at 11 P.M.
Keep your fingers crossed my luggage makes it with me this time and I will get everyone caught up when I return.

4 Weeks Left
Hi everyone,
I know it has been forever since I've updated anyone, but it is getting crunch time here. I can't believe that I only have 4 weeks left in Ireland and I will be home for good.
This has been a brilliant experience and one that I will remember for a lifetime. I have made some incredible friends that are going to be hard to say good bye to.
Some of the things I will miss the most are the open markets, the best cheese ever and believe it or not the rain.
As it gets closer to leaving I will try and update everyone again on the moving process and any new adventures I may have time to see and do.
I miss everyone and I'm excited and sad to come back home, since I feel that I now have 2 homes.

My European Holiday
Hello everyone,
WOW have we had an exciting couple of weeks. First of all London was amazing. We only had one day to really see everything London has to offer but it was well with the trip. Big Ben is a something everyone needs to see along with the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. The JW in London is also an amazing hotel to stay in and of course we had to splurge just a bit. So we decided to have in room dining at the hotel and that was an experience in it's self. They brought in a linen covered table with linen napkins and fine china for our dinner experience. Oh and by the way the Scottish smoked salmon is to die for. The best part was dinner was only 100 pounds. (You can do the conversion.)
We also visited the Hard Rock Cafe of London which is a totally different experience than the one in Salt Lake. The food was lovely and the atmosphere was brilliant.
For our next adventure, we foolishly decided to hire a car for the following week in Ireland. Now, you need to remember that we are driving on the left side of the road which has it's own experience to enjoy.
Bill is the chosen one to drive the car and make the right side of his brain work overtime. You also need to picture driving on a road that is only barely wide enough for a clown car and then add other clown cars (if you are lucky) heading right towards you. God forbid that you get a tractor or big truck coming the other direction at the same time you are on the road.
So, Bill has been driving for a day or so and he has finally stopped white knuckling the steering wheel and the Irish have stopped passing us since we have no idea what is coming at us around the next blind bend. Now he thinks he is a true Irish driver and take the bends at 100 KM an hour which is the correct speed limit. Except when you are the passenger I thought we were going to die.
We did see some amazing countryside and the closing of the eyes and ducking was well worth the trip.

Bill has arrived
Hello all,
Well Bill arrived to traditional Irish weather. The two of us have been busy exploring the city and surrounding areas. Of course we can't forget about checking out a couple of the local pubs either.
The weekend has been eventful as we visited the local street vender's for St Patrick's day festivals. We took the scenic route around the city and ended up in Blackpool which is at least 2 or 3 kilometers from the city center.
Tomorrow we are taking the city bus to see Blarney Castle so that should be an adventure all on its own.
Wednesday we are going to London so next week I will have lots of things to update everyone with and of course new pics for everyone to see.

Killarney National Forest
Hi all,
Today was a great day to play tourist and see some of the island. So two of the girls I work with and I went to talk a hike in Killarney National Forest.
I was 54 miles from the city. Now that doesn't sound very far right? Since the speed limit is 60 mph. Well in Ireland it takes 1.5 to 2 hours to drive that distance. The roads are very narrow and they have lots of bends in the road. You also need to go thru every little village on the way but once you get there it is beautiful.
The park has several hiking trails with red, yellow and blue arrows that go in no direction so you just pick one and see where you end up.
We hiked for a good 2.5 to 3 hours so needless to say we are all very tired. It was a great hike and if you ever go to Ireland this is a must see and do.

What happens when it snows in Ireland
Hello everyone,
Well have you ever wanted to know what happens to a country that doesn't have snow removal equipment?
You get a real snow day. Not like the ones in Utah where you still have to drive on the roads before the plows have been out. Instead they close everything down and you get to go home.
So to get a free day off from work it needs to snow about 1/2 inch melt, snow another 1/4 inch melt again, then worry the roads are going to freeze. Once that happens the buses or the taxi's don't run and you are stuck at work for the night.
Since they want everyone to come to work the next day and not get killed on the way home, (since you would have to walk about an hour into the city on a major highway with no footpaths.) The center announced that it would close at 4 pm so we could get home safely.
The best part I was scheduled to work the late shift until 8 pm and I only had to work 4 hours instead.
Sorry I don't have any pictures of the snow even though it was pretty with all the green in the background.
Just remember next time it snows that you need to meet the above qualifications to take a real snow day.

Snow In Ireland
Hi all,
I know it has been some time since I have updated everyone but nothing really exciting has happened.
So the only report I have is that on Monday it snowed here. Well everyone thought it was wonderful they are running to the window looking out and taking pictures. It was rather funny to see how people react to snow. Of course I would only call it a dusty since it didn't stick as was only maybe a quarter of an inch.
Things are going great here and the time is really flying by and before you no it I will be back.
I'm looking forward to Bill coming over in March so he can experience things here on the island. Actually I just excited that he can carry my grocery's back from the market.
Take care everyone and I will try and do something daring and exciting so at least I have one or two good stories to tell.

Home in Ireland
Hello everyone,
I made it back to Ireland and I didn't even have to run through any airports this time. Of course you would think that having a 3 hour layover in London you would assume that everything had time to follow you. Well of course my luggage is somewhere either still in Chicago or in London since I don't have it yet.
Good thing I carried on my important things so I can still survive without it for a day or so the way it is looking. That just means I get to go shopping since I don't have any underwear.
I do need to tell you about my seats on the flights. When I was checking in I realized that my flight out of Salt Lake I was in First Class. Now that is the way to fly. This plane only held 70 people all seated like sardines and here I was on the first row in First Class with all this wonderful leg room and big comfortable seats. It kind of felt weird being waited on while others where still boarding the plane but that is why you are in First Class.
My next flight out of Chicago to London my seats where in Premium Economy. Now if you can't afford First Class or Business this is the next best thing. Tons of leg room and my seat was like a lazy boy recliner. Foot rest and all and you get elbow room so when I had dinner on the plane I could actually eat in comfort instead of your elbows in at your sides.
My last leg of my flight the plane was only about a third full so I had the entire row to myself which was nice even if the flight was only 50 minutes.
So even though I had great seats and didn't need to run to my next connection I still can't manage to have something happen. At least this time it was only my luggage. So we will see how long it takes to get since the office is only open from 2 to 5 on Sundays. I need to remember I'm back in Ireland and things just happen when they happen and no one is in a hurry.
I will keep everyone posted on the time line it takes to get my luggage and hope it doesn't work on the same time line and getting your phone or internet connected.
It was great to be home for the Holidays and it is crazy that I have already been here for 4 months. The time is just flying and I will be home sometime in either May or June.

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas everyone,
I have made it home for the Holidays. Who would have thought what an adventure it would be.
So here is some advice next time you are traveling internationally.
First if you think a 2 hours layover is plenty of time , wrong!!!! I had 2 hours in London Heathrow and when I went through security they take your stuff and put it in radon bins to be x-rayed. So here you loaded down with a suitcase, laptop, purse and duty free bag. You are in a hurry and you think you have collected all of your stuff. Wrong again. I left my purse at security and didn't notice until the plane was starting to board.
Thank goodness it was close as I'm running back to security to get my purse. With that crisis over I get on a bus to board the plane. Well the plane was delayed take off for about an hour and I only had just under 2 hours to get my connecting flight in Chicago.
So here I'm am 40 thousand feet in the air thinking please let my next flight be late. Wrong again.
Here I am in Chicago with less than 40 minutes before my flight leaves. So I'm running again through the airport and asking everyone to let me through security so I can try and catch my flight. I'm out of breath as I get to the gate and they tell me you checked in late and we may not let you board. Now I'm really in panic standing at the gate thinking I ran all this way just to sleep in the airport.
Well they made me wait and I was the last one on the plane.
The moral of the story. Have at least 3 hours at every airport so you can put your shoes on when you run to the gate.
I will see all of you soon and here is Cork's idea of a cross bred of Santa Claus.

Christmas shopping in Cork
Hello everyone,
Today was my day off since I will be working my first Saturday since I started so I thought I would take advantage of the weekday off and do some shopping.
I was surprised at how busy the city was for a weekday. I can just imagine how crazy it is now on the weekends. It will be like Walmart the day after Thanksgiving.
I was able to get some pictures of the City and the lights.
See everyone in 2 weeks when I come home. Crazy to think that Christmas is only a couple of weeks away again.

Back in Ireland
Hello all,
I'm back in Ireland and I never thought I was going to miss it here that much. It does feel good to be back and getting things accomplished at work.
Bill surgery went great and he is on the mend doing great!!! It was good to be home and see everyone again at work and the family.
Thanksgiving was good as always and the best part this year was I didn't have to cook. Charlie took care of that and the turkey was ohhh so good.
It is really funny how you adjust to a different surrounding so fast. I do have a funny story to tell everyone about the toilets here in Ireland and the one at home.
I had to get up in the middle of the night and apparently the toilets here are higher than my at home. I fell in the damn thing and then tried to push the button on the tank to flush. Duh there isn't one there.
The tubs are higher here as well and when I stood in mine I felt like I was on the floor.
Well hopefully some of you got a chuckle reading how I fell in the toilet and I will be back on the 18th for the Christmas Holiday.

Back in the States
Hi all,
I'm home for Thanksgiving and Bill's surgery went great. His recovery time should only be about 6 weeks instead of six months. Which is a relief.
I have to admit it was rather odd to come back to Salt Lake for a visit. Ireland for now is my other home and I do miss it.
However, it has been nice to drive again since I haven't drove in 3 months.
I will keep everyone posted on any fun and exciting things that may be going on in Ireland. My next adventure when I get back if I have time before Christmas is going to the Blarney stone.

Holiday Preview in Cork
Well just like everywhere else Cork is getting geared up for Christmas. One of the most popular department stores Dellmans (similar to Nordstroms here) is also getting ready for the Christmas season. They have the most splendid windows I have seen. So I couldn't resist playing tourist on my way home from work to get some pictures.
They are truly amazing what they can do with a mannequin. Sorry I could only get one picture to post.

Halloween
Hi again,

Irish bus drivers
Hello all,
Sorry it has been a while since I updated my blog, but when you get into a routine things are normal day to day living and nothing exciting is happening.
I do have a funny picture to add to my blog and thought everyone would enjoy this. No one would have believed that you could high center a bus, but you can in Ireland.
So this was the bus I was trying to take to work this morning and needless to say we had to get on another one since this crazy bus driver didn't know how to turn the corner.
Hope all is well with everyone and I will see most of you at Thanksgiving since Bill is going to need surgery on his shoulder unexpectedly.

Jazz Festival
Last night was the opening night the Guinness Jazz Festival. The city was a crazy place and the music was outstanding. We had a great time and of course stayed out to late and drank a little to much but that's okay it was opening night.
They are expecting at least 40 thousand people to be in attendance over the next 3 days here in Cork. Every pub has a different Jazz band and they have booths set up all over the city to try different foods.
I did manage to take a few great pictures of the evening.

The Cemetery in Cross Haven
This cemetery is hundreds of years old. Many of the headstones have broken and look like big rocks buried in the tall grass. There is the remains of the chapel there and amazing people still put flowers on the graves. This would be a spooky place at night since it over looks the ocean and very old.

More things to see in Ireland
Now that I have some time I can show everyone more things here in Cork. I went to a great little village called Cross Haven. It is about an hour on the bus but at least it is a pretty ride. They have a great fish place there that everything was caught that day so it is really fresh and very cheap. The village is very old and many tourist used to visit.
